About MOCHA

MISSION
MOCHA is an innovative health movement in Springfield, Massachusetts which seeks to reduce severe health disparities in the city by creating health-conscious norms and diffusing them through men of color’s personal and social networks.

OBJECTIVES
Participants: Measurable impact on attitudes and health

Community:  Impact on friends and family, reduced disparities citywide

Process:   New precedent for collaborative, transparent, stake-holder-driven initiatives with accountability and results

WHAT IS MOCHA

  • A collaborative health program designed to fight health disparities in men of color – funded through the Massachusetts DPH
  • A campaign (to raise awareness and increase knowledge among men of color about staying healthy in body, mind and spirit)
  • A movement (to promote social attitudes and norms about masculinity and men of color that enhance individual, family and community health)
  • A spirit (that is moving us to remember the power of connection and love for inner and outer healing)
