MOCHA Springfield and the Springfield Y are proud to present a competition for Local Barbers aimed at celebrating the positive social impacts of barber shops, raising awareness about Men’s Health issues (June is Men’s Health Month!) and bringing community members together to take a stand for safety and non-violence.

A Call to Men – in Springfield

A Call to Men will be part of a 2 day training to be held in Holyoke, Massachusetts on April 11-12, 2011. This is a FREE Training Program. To register for this spectacular event, call 413-538-9717.

The Institute is designed to provide advanced training to men, women, teens and adults of all ages to help shift social norms that define manhood in our culture, and produce a national movement of men committed to ending violence against women.”

“The first quarter of the MOCHA roll out focused on putting a first cohort of men through a pilot
health class, which consisted of a 10 week curriculum that covered one health-related topic every week, including
fitness, food reproductive, financial, mental and emotional health. Men who completed this course showed
improvements in their physical conditioning, strength and flexibility. They also showed improved attitudes towards
their fitness level and vitality. While the organization made efforts to engage other men from the community in health
activities separate from the class, there was little short term success, a matter that will be the focus of planning going
forward. ”

MOCHA Speaks – Prostate Cancer Presentation

The next installment of MOCHA Speaks will occur on Wednesday, February 23rd, 6:30PM-8:00PM. The session, which covers prevention, treatment, and survival of prostate cancer, will be held at City Place Inn, 711 Dwight Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
